A Farmingdale man was arrested and charged with drunken driving Thursday, after the car he was driving struck and killed a skateboarder, Nassau County police said.

Police said Michael Gradzki, 28, of Farmingdale, was crossing Clinton Street at Conklin Street in Farmingdale from east to west on a skateboard when he was hit. Gradzki was struck at 12:24 a.m. Thursday by a 2009 Infiniti traveling eastbound on Conklin driven by Kenneth Chan, 31, of 2 Hynes Court.

Gradzki was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he died at 2:20 a.m., police said. Later, police said, Chan was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol and he was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated. The vehicle was impounded for safety checks, police said.

Chan was to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead Thursday.
