Cops arrest man on assault, drug charges
Nassau police officers arrested an Elmont man on assault and drug possession charges in Floral Park after chasing him down in their vehicle and on foot, police said.
Wallace Cain, 27, of Fieldmere Street was arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of second-degree assault, seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. He was also cited with motor vehicle and traffic law violations of unlicensed motor vehicle operation and for having excessive tint on the windows of the vehicle he was driving.
Cain's attorney could not be reached for comment.
Third Precinct officers said they noticed Cain operating a 2009 Honda Accord with dark tinted windows on Jericho Turnpike in New Hyde Park at about 7 p.m. Monday.
When they tried to stop the car, he continued into Floral Park, but drove into a dead-end street at Flower Avenue and King Street, where he left the car and tried to run, police said.
Officers caught up to him on Plainfield Avenue, but one of them suffered an injury on his right hand and elbow during a struggle to restrain him, police said, adding that they later confiscated several small wax bags of heroin from Cain.
Cain was being held on $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash, according to court records.
