A Baldwin man was arrested on forgery charges Wednesday after he used a counterfeit $20 bill to pay for a candy bar at a Rockville Centre pharmacy, Nassau County police said.

Workers at the CVS Pharmacy on Sunrise Highway called Rockville Centre police after seeing Steven J. Loetterle, 31, pass the bogus bill, Nassau police said. They also gave a description of him and his vehicle, a 1988 red Chevrolet, police said.

Shortly after, Rockville Centre police spotted Loetterle driving the car, pulled him over at North Center Avenue near Sunrise Highway, and found him to have "multiple counterfeit" twenties in his possession, Nassau police said.

Loetterle is charged with 12 counts of criminal possession of a forged instrument, police said, and is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead.
