Cops: Bayville man was DWI on Route 106
A Bayville man who was speeding and driving on the shoulder of Route 106 in Oyster Bay on Saturday was drunk, State Police said.
Troopers stopped Carmelo Starrantino, 53, in a black Mercedes-Benz at about 1:10 a.m. after he was speeding and driving on the shoulder of the roadway, north of the Northern State Parkway, according to a news release.
As troopers interviewed Starrantino they detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage, the release said.
Starrantino failed sobriety tests and was arrested, police said. He also provided a breath-analyzer reading of 0.12 percent, police said.
He is charged with driving while intoxicated and traffic violations and is due in First District Court in Hempstead on April 20.
