A Bellmore man was arrested after Nassau County police said he sicced his pit bull on a woman who lived in his apartment complex during an argument early Saturday.

Police said Luis M. Linares, 18, got involved in an argument between two women shortly before 2 a.m. in Bellmore.

Linares then chased one of the women upstairs to her apartment with his pit bull, yelling at the dog to attack her, police said.

The woman, 32, was bitten in the leg as she tried to get into her apartment, then screamed at Linares to get out of her apartment while she locked herself in the bathroom, police said.

Linares then hit the bathroom door, knocking a two-foot hole in it and ordering the dog to attack her again, police said.

The woman's two sons, ages 8 and 10, locked themselves in another room of the apartment, police said.

Police arrested Linares and charged him with second-degree assault, second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, fourth-degree criminal mischief and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said the woman's injuries were minor, and the children were not injured. The dog remains at the man's residence, police said.

He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip.
