Cops: Bellmore traffic stop leads to weapons charges

A routine traffic stop in Bellmore on Sunday night led to the arrest of two men on weapons possession charges, Nassau County police said.
Kevin Deturris, 40, of 116 15th Ave., West Babylon, and Anthony Trentacosta, 21, of 2800 Boundary Ave., Bellmore, were each charged with two counts of third-degree criminal possession of a weapon after the stop on Boundary Avenue at about 9:40 p.m., police said.
Additionally, Deturris was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and what police called "numerous" violations of vehicle and traffic law.
Deturris was arraigned Monday and held on bail of $50,000 cash or $100,000 bond. Trentacosta was also arraigned and held on $50,000 bail.
Police said that Seventh Precinct officers instituted the traffic stop after they said Deturris, driving a 2005 Dodge northbound on Bellmore Avenue, failed to stop at a stop sign, and then failed to signal a turn onto Boundary Avenue.
During the stop, police said officers spotted a marijuana pipe in the center console cup holder of the vehicle. A search then recovered a .357 caliber Glock handgun from the center console, as well as a nightstick from under a rear seat, police said.
The vehicle was impounded after the arrests.
