A Bethpage man was arrested Monday, charged with two February burglaries and two thefts in January, police said.

Robert Fornal, Jr., 41, of 169 N. Second St., was arrested at the Great Neck Long Island Rail Road station and charged with two counts of second-degree burglary and two counts of petty larceny.

Nassau County police said Fornal "removed chimney caps" from homes on Cypress and Woods avenues in East Meadow on Jan. 28.

They said Fornal also broke into a home on 10th Street in Bethpage on Feb. 3, prying open a side door and stealing jewelry -- which, police said, he later pawned at a shop on Hillside Avenue in Jamaica, Queens. On Feb. 7, police said, Fornal burglarized another home in Bethpage, this time on Meade Avenue. He kicked open a rear door in that burglary, police said, also stealing jewelry before fleeing.

Jewelry stolen in the first burglary was recovered.

It was not immediately clear if police recovered the jewelry stolen in the second burglary.

Police said Fornal was taken to a hospital after his arrest, where he was admitted for heroin-related detox issues. He was arraigned in his hospital bed Tuesday and bail was set at $21,000 cash or $42,000 bond. He is due in court Thursday.
