A group of male attackers surrounded a man on a bike on a street in New Cassel on Monday night, attacking him and stealing his mountain bike, Nassau County police said.

The attack and robbery occurred at about 9:30 p.m. on Hopper Street, police said.

Police said the attackers, a group of five to seven males, appeared to be in their late teens or early 20s. They also punched and kicked the 35-year-old victim, who, police said, was taken to a hospital. Police did not describe the extent of his injuries.

Police are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
