A Bay Park man died early Sunday after he fell off his bicycle and was hit by a car in Oceanside, Nassau police said.

Police said a man saw Jay Brown, 48, riding in the center lane of traffic on Long Beach Road at about 1:32 a.m. when he fell off his bicycle. Police did not identify the witness.

Brown was then hit by Nesim Pinto, who was driving a white 1998 Chevrolet van.

Brown suffered critical injuries and was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:25 a.m.

The van was impounded for a safety check, but police said there did not appear to be criminality in this incident.
