Police are searching for a driver who seriously injured a teenage bicyclist in an accident Tuesday evening in Hempstead, then fled the scene.

The 16-year-old victim was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, police said.

Nassau County police said the car, which sped off on Jackson Avenue, is a four-door sedan and is either gold or tan.

The accident occurred on Clinton Avenue near Yale Street and Lent Avenue at about 7:20 p.m., police said.

Police are asking anyone with information regarding the accident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
