Cops: Bicyclist seriously hurt in crash with car
A bicyclist suffered serious head, leg and arm injuries after his bicycle collided with a car Sunday in Valley Stream, sending him crashing into a pole, police said.
The name of the victim, an 18-year-old man, was not released. Police said he was in serious but stable condition at a hospital.
Nassau County police said the accident occurred at about 2:45 p.m. on West Valley Stream Boulevard at Hicks Street.
It was then, police said, that the cyclist “entered the eastbound lane” on West Valley Stream Boulevard and “collided” with an eastbound 2017 Ford Fusion driven by a 36-year-old woman. The force of the impact sent the bicyclist “to the southeast corner” of West Valley Stream Boulevard, where police said he hit the pole.
He was transported to the hospital by police ambulance.
Police said the female driver was not injured in the crash. Neither were her two children, ages 4 and 1.
Police said there was no criminality.
