The body of a drowned man was recovered by authorities early Tuesday from a portion of Jamaica Bay off Inwood, Nassau police said.

The sighting of a body was reported in a 911 call about 6:45 a.m. by a passerby who saw the victim floating in the Inwood Bay Park waters, police said.

Marine Bureau officers recovered the body a short time later, police said. The 36-year-old man, whose name was withheld by authorities pending notification of family, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Fourth Squad detectives will work with the medical examiner's office to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, police said, but there appeared to be no criminality involved.
