An East Meadow man who police said decided to break into a tennis club in April seems to have picked the wrong racket.

He unsuccessfully tried to open the cash box, police said - and fled the scene empty-handed.

When Nassau County police found DNA evidence at the scene, it was game, set and match for Evan Rogers, 25, of Pengon Circle, East Meadow.

Police arrested him Thursday, charging him with third-degree burglary and possession of burglar tools for the unsuccessful burglary at the Eisenhower Park tennis center office on April 4.

He was scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court, Hempstead.

Police said Rogers entered the tennis office at 4:10 a.m. and "unsuccessfully attempted to open the cash box."

He fled without getting a dime, police said.

But he left behind DNA evidence, police said. It was not immediately clear how police matched that DNA to Rogers.
