Nassau County police are looking for a man who shot a teenager in the wrist Sunday night in Hempstead, according to Third Squad detectives.

Detectives said a 14-year-old boy was walking on Polk Avenue, north of Peninsula Boulevard, at about 8:25 p.m. when a dark-colored BMW drove up behind him.

A man with a handgun got out on the passenger side and fired several shots at the boy, who ran away southbound on Polk Avenue.

The boy sustained a gunshot wound to his left wrist, police said. He was taken to a nearby hospital and treated for nonlife threatening injuries.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
