A car struck two pedestrians, a utility pole and a pizzeria on Hempstead Turnpike in Elmont on Saturday night, Nassau County police said.

The pedestrians were taken to a hospital but did not appear to have serious injuries, police spokesman Eric Evensen said.

The driver was not injured and was not charged in the accident that happened at 7:50 p.m., he said.

Traffic on Hempstead Turnpike was briefly stopped because of the downed power pole.

Though police said the exterior of the building may have been damaged, at the pizzeria, King Umberto at 1343 Hempstead Turnpike, business went on as usual.

"It's a little busy right now, you wanna' call back later?" said a man who answered the phone at the restaurant. "It's Saturday night, it's a restaurant."
