An elderly man and woman were hospitalized after they were struck Wednesday afternoon by a vehicle that was backing up in a Mineola parking lot, Nassau police said.

The 89-year-old woman was in critical condition with severe head trauma, police said, and the 88-year-old man suffered injuries to his hip and head.

The two were walking through the parking lot at 328 East Jericho Tpke. at 2:19 p.m. when they were struck by a 2007 Toyota 4Runner, police said.

There were no criminal charges brought against the 37-year-old driver, police said.

The 4Runner was impounded for brake and safety checks, police said.
