An 11-year-old boy struck by a car in Oceanside on Friday afternoon was taken by helicopter to Nassau University Medical Center in serious condition, Nassau police said.

Police said the boy was crossing south to north on Merrick Road between State Street and Oceanside Avenue when he was hit by a westbound 2012 Honda driven by a 58-year-old woman.

Brake and safety checks were performed on the Honda, police said, and there is no criminality involved in the accident.

Details on the boy's injuries and condition were not immediately available.
