Cops: Clerk assaulted in Elmont robbery
Two men, armed with a handgun, robbed a convenience store in Elmont Sunday night, slamming the store clerk's head against a bathroom wall and stealing cash and lottery tickets before fleeing, police said.
Nassau County police are asking anyone with information regarding the armed robbery at Dutch Broadway Convenience to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
The robbery occurred at the store on Dutch Broadway at about 9:15 p.m. Sunday, police said. Police said the clerk, a 45-year-old man, was closing the store and had just stepped through the back door to put out newspapers when he was confronted by a man armed with a small black handgun.
Police said the robber "slammed the victim's head on the bathroom wall" and then closed the door, "ordering him not to come out."
The two robbers then robbed the store and fled.
Police said the clerk suffered a small cut to his head, but declined medical attention.
One of the robbers is described as being in his mid-to-late 20s, possibly his early 30s, and about 6-foot tall, 180 pounds. He was wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, police said. Police had no description of the second assailant.
