Cops: Coliseum vote signs vandalized

A Levittown man was arrested Friday and charged with vandalizing signs promoting the passage of a new Nassau Coliseum.

Nassau County Police observed Thomas Calderone, 46, at 2:15 p.m. Friday writing "No" on a pro-Coliseum sign on North Broadway in Jericho, according to a police spokesman.

Calderone was charged with misdemeanor graffiti making, possession of graffiti instruments and unlawfully advertising and posting signs.

Dozens of other "Vote Yes" Coliseum posters were also defaced this week along Hempstead Turnpike in Levittown and East Meadow, police said. In these incidents, the vandal scribbled in black marker "No" or "Let Wang Pay," referring to Islanders owner Charles Wang. No arrests have been made in those incidents.

Nassau voters will go to the polls Aug. 1 to decide on a proposal to borrow up to $400 million to build a new arena and minor league baseball park.
