A North Babylon man faces multiple charges, including resisting arrest and possession of crack, after being pulled over early Thursday in Wantagh for driving with a cracked windshield, Nassau County police said.

Detrick Stewart, 40, of 74 Commack Rd., is charged with assault, three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, criminal possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and operating a vehicle with a fractured windshield, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Police saw Stewart driving a 1993 Acura south on Beverly Road at 12:04 a.m. His front windshield was "fractured," police said, so they pulled him over.

Stewart was "observed reaching under the driver's seat" before he was removed from the car, police said, and he was then ordered to remove his hands from his jacket pockets.

Stewart attempted to reach for his right pocket, police said, and a struggle with an officer ensued.

Stewart tried to kick the officer before being arrested, police said. They also said they found a knife in his pocket.

The officer had a cut hand and bruised knee and was treated and released at a nearby hospital.

Police said bags containing what is believed to be cocaine, crack and oxycodone pills were found in Stewart's car.
