Cops: Customers stop purse-snatcher at store
A man who stole a pocketbook from the cart of a woman shopping in a Rockville Centre store Saturday was arrested after two customers detained the purse-snatcher and held him until officers arrived on the scene, police said.
The incident occurred at Home Goods on North Village Avenue at about 5 p.m.
Arrested was Joseph Incao, 33, of 12 Hempstead Ave., Apt. 1K, in Rockville Centre.
Nassau County police said Incao reached into the shopping cart of a 57-year-old woman, grabbed her pocketbook and ran for the store exit. Police said a witness attempted to stop Incao, who pushed past him, then was assisted by a second man.
The two were able to hold Incao until Rockville Centre police officers arrived on the scene, police said. No one was injured.
Incao was charged with third-degree robbery. He was arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead and was ordered held on $2,500 cash or $5,000 bond, which records indicate was not posted.
He is scheduled to appear in court again on Wednesday.
