Cops: Dad, son collected rent on house they didn't own
A Manorville father and son are charged with scamming more than $3,100 in rent and security deposits for a Long Beach home they did not own, Nassau police said Tuesday.
Ezekiel Ramasir, 57, of Sparrow Lane, and his son, Elviston Ramasir, 27, of Gothic Circle, were both charged with third-degree grand larceny and first-degree defraud for the scam in June and July, police said.
The father and son placed ads on Craigslist about a home for rent on East Hudson Street in Long Beach, but the pair did not own the home, police said.
However, they did collect $3,133 for first and last month's rent and a security deposit, according to police. Police said the two represented themselves as a real estate agent, landlord and construction worker when showing the property.
After they were paid, the defendants stopped answering calls and text messages from the victims, police said. The victims were never allowed to move in and never reimbursed, police said.
Nassau County police said the younger Ramasir was arrested on Nov. 5. His father was arrested Tuesday. Arraignment details were not immediately available.
Elviston Ramasir was also charged with third-degree grand larceny and second-degree forgery after police said he presented more than $33,000 in fraudulent checks to the landlord of office space he rented in East Meadow.
