A Hicksville woman who police say struck her mother on the face and head with a metal frying pan was arrested Tuesday morning and charged with second-degree assault.

When Nassau County police arrived at the Gardner Avenue home of Mary Ditomas, 23, at about 7:10 a.m., they found her 55-year-old mother lying on the floor, semiconscious. The woman was taken to a hospital and admitted with a fractured nose, and cuts and scrapes to the face and head.

According to police, Ditomas argued with her mother and when the disagreement escalated, hit her with the frying pan.

Ditomas is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
