Cops: Deliveryman flees, thwarting robbery in Freeport
Police are searching for a gunman who tried to rob a man delivering Chinese food Wednesday night in Freeport.
The robbery was thwarted, Nassau County police said, when the deliveryman, seeing the armed robber, dropped the food he was carrying -- and ran to his nearby car.
The attempted robbery occurred at about 8 p.m. on Raynor Street, police said.
Police said the victim was approached by the suspect, who flashed a black handgun and demanded cash. After the deliveryman dropped the food he was delivering and fled, police said, the suspect then ran away through a rear yard.
Police said no one was injured.
The suspect is described as being about 20 years old, about 5-foot-6 and 140 pounds. The gunman wore all black.
Police are asking anyone with information about the attempted robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
