Cops do LI radiation checks
If you happened to see Nassau County police officers stationed along exit ramps to major roadways Saturday morning, don't worry.
It wasn't a manhunt.
As part of the federal Securing the Cities Initiative, officers were slowing traffic on exits and testing vehicles for radioactive materials, said Deputy Chief Frank Kirby.
County officers were deployed to exits along the Long Island Expressway, Seaford-Oyster Bay Expressway and Sunrise Highway using covert and visible equipment used to detect radioactive material, Kirby said.
The exercise was part of a five-day training session that began Wednesday.
