A White Plains man led troopers on a short pursuit Wednesday after being stopped for speeding on the Southern State Parkway in North Valley Stream, State Police said.

Wally Silverio, 19, faces charges of fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, reckless endangerment and endangering the welfare of a child after being arrested at about 1 p.m., police said.

Troopers pulled over Silverio, in a Honda Civic, for driving 96 mph eastbound on the parkway near Corona Avenue, according to a news release. As a trooper approached the car, Silverio sped off, going through a red light and re-entering eastbound traffic on the parkway.

The report said the driver "proceeded recklessly until becoming disabled after striking a curb" near Exit 17, Hempstead Avenue, a distance of about two miles.

Silverio was then arrested without incident.

Two 16-year-old friends who were in the vehicle were released to their parents, police said.

Silverio's arraignment information was not immediately available.
