A state police unit outfitted with a new state-of-the-art license plate reader got a hit on a sport utility vehicle with a suspended registration Thursday on the Southern State Parkway and found the driver was driving with 15 license suspensions, police said.

State police said Dennis Carrasco, 29, of Fifth Avenue in Hicksville, had a New Jersey driver's license - and it was suspended, along with the registration on his Dodge Ram.

It was not immediately clear why either was suspended.

Police stopped Carrasco near Exit 27, Wantagh Parkway, at 8:40 p.m. Police said the trooper was on the eastbound right shoulder when Carrasco drove past and the plate-reader indicated the Ram had a suspended registration. The stop then revealed the license suspension.

Police said Carrasco was charged with aggravated unlicensed operation - which applies to having more than 10 license suspensions - as well as operating a vehicle with a suspended registration. Arraignment information was not available.
