Cops: Driver killed in Southern State crash is Hempstead man

State police have identified the driver killed in a single-car crash early Sunday on the Southern State Parkway in North Valley Stream.
Darnell Gibson, 20, of Hempstead, was driving a white 1992 Acura with three passengers east on the parkway near Exit 14, Fletcher Avenue, at 6:30 a.m., police said, when it crossed the right shoulder and struck a light pole.
Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene by a Nassau County emergency medical team, police said.
None of the three passengers had life-threatening injuries, police said.
