Fifth Squad detectives are looking for the driver of a car who rammed into four cars, including two police patrol cars, before bailing out and escaping Monday through the backyards of a Valley Stream neighborhood, Nassau County police said.

The driver, a man, left the scene of the accidents after smashing a gray 2009 BMW into two parked cars on Fenwood Drive, a marked radio motor patrol vehicle near Salem and Wells roads, and another radio patrol vehicle near Arkansas Drive and Wellsboro Road, police said.

Police said the man was driving at a high rate of speed and that after hitting the second patrol car he ran off through rear yards in the neighborhood, shortly after 4 a.m.

Two officers in the second police vehicle that was hit were injured, police said. They reported sore shoulders, backs and knees and were taken to a nearby hospital.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
