An East Northport man faces a charge of marijuana possession after being pulled over Monday on the Southern State Parkway in North Valley Stream, State Police said.

A trooper driving the parkway noticed a Toyota Rav 4 parked on hazardous markings in front of the Tourist Information Center near Fletcher Avenue, Exit 14, at about 5:20 p.m., according to a news release.

The driver of the vehicle entered traffic, and the trooper also saw the windshield had a large crack, police said.

As the trooper stopped the vehicle, its driver, Michael Walis, 44, looked down toward the front console at least two times, the report said.

The trooper said he also saw marijuana near the center front console as he interviewed Walis, the release said. A vehicle search produced two plastic bags of marijuana, about 10 grams, and a marijuana cigarette, police said.

Walis charged with unlawful possession of marijuana and traffic violations. He is scheduled to appear Nov. 21 in First District Court in Hempstead.
