Cops: Drunken driver hits vehicles, building

A Levittown man was arrested on Saturday and charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving after Hempstead Village police said the vehicle he was driving crashed into a parked car, a bus, a building and a utility pole, which then fell on another car.

Robert Ladisa, 54, pulled his 2001 Ford out of a parking space on Main Street about 6:30 p.m. and hit a 2000 Toyota that was parked with people sitting inside, Lt. Edward Hayman said.

After that crash, Ladisa crashed into a Nassau Inter-County Express bus carrying 10 people, then careened off the bus to hit a building at 58 Main St. and a utility pole at the corner of Main Street and Fulton Avenue, Hayman said.

The force of the crash caused the pole to topple over and land on a 2001 Honda that was traveling north on Main Street, Hayman said.

Eleven people were taken to hospitals, none with major injuries, Hayman said.

Ladisa, who was among the injured, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless endangerment and violations of the vehicle and traffic code. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
