Cops: Drunken driver on Cross Island Pkwy. went 104 mph
A driver stopped after he sped by State Police early Monday on the Cross Island Parkway -- and was clocked at 104 mph -- ended up arrested on reckless and drunken driving charges, authorities said.
Stephen Samuel, 42, of Brooklyn, provided "a positive breath sample" that registered .13 percent blood-alcohol content after being stopped on the southbound Cross Island in Bellerose Terrace at 1:13 a.m., police said. The legal limit in New York is .08 percent.
Samuel was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, because police said he has another DWI conviction within the past 10 years. He also was charged with reckless driving and assorted traffic violations.
He faces arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead at a later date, police said.
Police said Samuel, driving a black Mitsubishi, sped past a trooper who then clocked him at 104 mph before initiating a traffic stop. No one was injured. In a news release, police did not specify the specific location on the Cross Island.
