A Great Neck man who tried to drive past a roadcheck on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in East Meadow Saturday night faces a drunken driving charge, State Police said.

William Vasquez, 26, was driving a gray Volkswagen at about 10:35 p.m. north on the parkway near Hempstead Turnpike, where troopers were conducting a DWI roadcheck, police said in a Monday news release.

Troopers said Vasquez tried to "pass through the roadcheck" and was pulled over.

Troopers "detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage," and Vasquez "failed sobriety tests," according to the release.

He is charged with DWI and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and is scheduled to appear April 6 at First District Court in Hempstead.
