A Kings Park man was arrested Sunday night on drunken driving charges and also for going the wrong way on an exit ramp of the Meadowbrook State Parkway in Hempstead, state police said.

Douglas Kopczynski, 23, was driving a red Hyundai north on the Meadowbrook at about 11:49 p.m. and took the exit for the Hempstead Turnpike eastbound, police said, when he struck a stop sign at the end of the ramp.

The driver then crossed Hempstead Turnpike and drove in the wrong direction onto the exit for the northbound Meadowbrook Parkway, police said. The car became disabled halfway down the ramp.

Kopczynski is charged with driving while intoxicated and also with several traffic violations. He was scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead.
