A Massapequa man was arrested early Thursday morning, charged with driving while ability-impaired by drugs after crashing his 2005 Ford Mustang into a utility pole and fire hydrant in Amityville, Amityville Village police said.

Michael J. Franks, 33, was not injured in the crash, police said. Charged with DWAI, he was being held on $5,000 bail, police said.

Franks crashed his car into a utility pole at the intersection of Oak Street and Broadway at 2:02 a.m., police said.

The force of the crash snapped the pole -- and the fire hydrant, struck by the car, landed in a parking lot.

The Amityville Fire Department cleaned up a fluid leak.
