A Long Beach man was drunk when he drove his car into a Glenwood Landing house early Tuesday morning, Nassau County police said.

Ricardo Medina-Baez, 41, of 248 E. Broadway, is charged with driving while intoxicated, police said, and was taken to an area hospital, where he was admitted with a head injury.

Police did not have details on his condition.

Shortly before 1 a.m., Medina-Baez was driving a 2005 Volkswagen southbound on Glen Cove Avenue when his car left the roadway and struck a house at Glen Cove Avenue and University Place, police said.

A female resident who was home at the time was not injured, police said.

At least three fire departments responded to the scene after the car burst into flames and then the house caught fire, police said.

Medina-Baez will be arraigned as soon as "medically practical," police said.
