Cops: DWI driver went around crash scene
A Hicksville man was arrested Sunday night after he drove drunk around an accident scene on the Southern State Parkway, state police said.
At about 11:25 p.m. Steven Vandeyar, 19, driving a maroon Audi, maneuvered around cones set up for an accident investigation on the Southern near Exit 24, Merrick Avenue, North Merrick, State Police said.
After a short pursuit by a state trooper, Vandeyar was stopped and tested for alcohol, which produced a .13 percent blood-alcohol content, according to police. A background check revealed Vandeyar had a suspended license, state police said in a Monday news release.
Vandeyar was charged with driving while intoxicated, misdemeanor unlicensed operation of a vehicle, reckless driving and other traffic violations.
He was issued a desk appearance ticket, prosecutors said.
