Two state parks police officers were hurt Friday after another driver crashed into the back of their SUV near Jones Beach State Park, authorities said.

The marked police vehicle rolled over, injuring both officers inside, State Police said.

State troopers arrested the driver, Robert Pierro, 29, of the Bronx, who was being held overnight on a driving while intoxicated charge.

The officers, a field training officer and an officer who joined the force May 10, were in their car on a traffic stop just west of the Ocean Parkway traffic circle when Pierro's Saab struck them about 3:30 p.m., authorities said.

Richard O'Donnell, state parks police chief, said both officers were released after being treated at Nassau University Medical Center.

The roadway was shut down for at least two hours as police investigated.

State police said the driver facing charges was not hurt.
