An unlicensed driver was arrested early Thursday morning and charged with driving while intoxicated, after his car struck a boat and trailer that had been parked on Atlantic Avenue in Baldwin, Nassau County police said.
Shawn Oliver, 28, of Freeport, was driving a 2011 Lexus east on Atlantic, near Eastern Boulevard, at 3:08 a.m. when his car hit the boat, police said. The trailer was hitched to a parked pickup truck, police said. The car, which struck the boat's two outboard engines, ended up in the middle of the road. Baldwin fire department personnel were called to assist.
Oliver was taken for treatment to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow, where he was admitted, police said. The police did not know his condition as of Thursday afternoon.
He was charged with aggravated unlicensed driving and DWI, police said.
