An Elmont man was arrested Sunday after he went behind the counter at a local Walgreens and stole cigarettes, Nassau police said.

According to detectives, Michael Jones, 41, of 140 Fieldmere St., went into the Walgreens at 2095 Dutch Broadway and went behind the counter where a 21-year-old female store employee tried to stop him. Jones pushed her aside and removed several packs of cigarettes, then left the store. Fourth Precinct police officers found Jones at Dutch Broadway and Elmont Road and arrested him.

There were no injuries and the cigarettes were recovered.

Jones was charged with third-degree robbery charges and will be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Monday.
