Cops: Elmont woman shot in stomach at home
A woman was shot in the stomach late Sunday after she screamed from the window of her Elmont home for a group of men to stop damaging a car parked in her driveway, Nassau County police said.
The men, about 10 to 12 wearing hoodies, gathered on the front lawn of the woman's home at about 11:34 p.m., Fifth Squad detectives said.
The men were looking for the owner of the car in the driveway, the victim's boyfriend, police said. When the men began smashing out the window and hitting the car, the woman screamed from the window for the men to stop.
Then, police said, the men fired five gunshots into the home, striking the woman in the stomach.
She is in stable condition at a nearby hospital, police said.
After firing the shots, the men ran north on Sussex Road to three waiting cars -- a white car with a black hood, a silver car, and a blue and green car, police said.
The cars then drove away, east on Hempstead Turnpike.
