A Farmingdale man was arrested on Sunday after he struck another man, then fought with police officers and injured one of then, Nassau County police said.

Shortly after midnight, officers on patrol said they saw Brian J. Blackmore, 22, punch a 34-year-old man in front of the Library Cafe at 274 Main St. in Farmingdale.

When police approached Blackmore, they said Blackmore began to run away, but police stopped him after a short distance.

Police said Blackmore refused to follow the officers' commands, instead flailing his limbs as the officers arrested him.

The officer received a shoulder injury and was taken to Nassau University Medical Center in East Meadow. The 34-year-old victim suffered pain and swelling on his face, police said. Blackmore received facial injuries, but refused medical attention, police said.

Blackmore was charged with second-degree assault, third-degree assault and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
