A Freeport man faces a felony drunken-driving charge after being stopped for speeding Sunday on the Meadowbrook State Parkway in North Merrick, New York State Police said.

Troopers said they stopped Jesse Baldwin, 37, after he drove a red Chevrolet Malibu 78 mph on the southbound Meadowbrook, near the Southern State Parkway exit, at about 3:35 a.m.

As he was being interviewed, Baldwin displayed "bloodshot watery eyes, impaired motor coordination and slurred speech," police said in a news release.

Baldwin failed sobriety tests, police said, and was arrested. He also provided a breath-analyzer sample that was .08 percent, police said.

He is charged with felony DWI because of a previous drunken-driving conviction within the past 10 years, police said.

His arraignment information at First District Court in Hempstead was not immediately available.
