Nassau County's Arson/Bomb Squad is trying to determine who used fireworks to damage two mailboxes in Elmont early Monday, police said.

At about 2:05 a.m., a homeowner on Hunnewell Avenue reported that his mailbox and some mail inside were destroyed by fireworks, police said.

Police also said at 5:15 a.m. a U.S. Postal Service mailbox at Madison and Cross streets was damaged by fireworks.

A spokeswoman said police are not commenting on whether the two acts could have been done by the same person or group. "The investigation is ongoing," she said.

Anyone with information can call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477. All calls will be kept confidential.
