A North Carolina fugitive wanted on rape and other sex offenses was captured Friday morning in Hempstead, Nassau police said.

The 36-year-old Charlotte man was arrested on West Graham Avenue by the department's fugitive squad and the U.S. marshals, police said. Newsday is withholding his name to protect the child victim.

Authorities in Mecklenburg County had issued warrants for his arrest on charges of statutory rape, indecent liberties with a child and sex offense-parental role.

The man was arraigned Friday in Hempstead and held in jail without bail for North Carolina authorities.
