The attendant of a North Bellmore gas station was pushed to the ground by a mask-wearing bandit Tuesday night, but avoided being robbed when he yelled for police -- and the would-be robber got scared and fled.

Nassau County police said the incident took place at the Shamrock gas station on North Jerusalem Road in North Bellmore at 10 p.m.

The robber, wearing dark clothing and a mask, approached the 57-year-old station attendant, "forcibly" pushing him to the ground and demanding cash, police said. Instead of handing over the money, police said the attendant yelled for the cops -- and said the robber hopped a fence and fled onto nearby Evelyn Avenue.

No one was injured.

Police are now asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
