Armed with a knife and a gun, a man robbed a gas station on Merrick Road in Merrick late Wednesday before fleeing into a waiting vehicle, Nassau County police said.

The robbery occurred at 10:48 p.m. at the BP gas station.

Police said the suspect, described at being about 5-foot-8, clean shaven, bald and wearing a long-sleeved black shirt and jeans, entered the station store, threatened the employee and demanded cash. Police said the robber emptied the cash register, then fled in the car.

The employee was not injured and, police said, no one else was at the station at the time of the robbery.

The car fled westbound on Merrick Road and onto the northbound Meadowbrook State Parkway, police said.

Police ask anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-TIPS. All calls will remain confidential.
