Cops: Gunpoint robbery in Hewlett driveway

A wristwatch worth $37,000 and cash was stolen at gunpoint from a Hewlett man as he was walking to the front door of his home Tuesday evening, police said.

The Breitling Avenger watch and $4,200 was taken from the 42-year-old victim in the driveway of his house about 6:47 p.m., Nassau police said.

Investigators declined to release the name of the specific street where the robbery took place, but said the suspect, who had displayed a black handgun during the robbery, fled in the area of Quay Avenue.

The gunman was described as being in his 30s, about 5 feet, 10 inches tall and weighing about 250 pounds. He was wearing a black mask that covered his face up to his eyes, and was dressed in black, including a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and black shoes, police said.
