A home health care aide was arrested Thursday and was charged with stealing checks that totaled more than $3,000 from an 87-year-old Baldwin man, police said.

Mashada Dessaure, 24, of 35 Bainbridge St., Roosevelt, was charged with third-degree grand larceny and five counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument.

While employed as an aide to the victim between June and July, Nassau police said she took five checks from the man, made them out to herself and cashed them.

Dessaure was to be arraigned Friday in First District Court, Hempstead.
