Cops: Hempstead hit-run driver surrenders
A driver who police said seriously injured a pedestrian in a hit-and-run accident Saturday afternoon in Hempstead surrendered to police late Sunday evening and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident.
Lloyd Davis Jr., 21, of James L.L. Burrell Avenue, surrendered to Nassau County police detectives at the Third Precinct Sunday at 10:15 p.m. and was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, Nassau County police said.
He is scheduled for arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead on Nov. 8.
Police said Davis struck a 50-year-old woman as she attempted to cross the intersection at Peninsula Boulevard and Front Street at 3:15 p.m. Saturday. The woman, whose identity has not been released, was taken to a local hospital and admitted in serious condition.
The extent of her injuries was not immediately known.
It was not immediately clear what led Davis to surrender.
